Know what changes to look for

Our mission is to support the early detection of breast cancer in the UK. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with 1 in 7 developing breast cancer in their lifetime. Almost 50% of breast cancer is first detected by women themselves and yet 49% of women say they don’t check themselves on a regular basis.

We provide self-referred breast awareness consultations to women who are 18 and over with specialist nurses. They provide confidential breast awareness advice via a face-to-face appointment (for local women, in normal times) or secure video appointment or telephone call to any woman who wants one, without having to see a GP first. Checking your breasts regularly can make a huge difference in early detection, whether you’re 25 or 75. By learning what’s normal for you, and understanding potential early signs of breast cancer, you can make sure you get the screening, help and support you may need, as soon as possible. Make your appointment today and remember it’s

About Us

Supporting the early detection of Breast Cancer

Our mission is to support the early detection of breast cancer through education, advice and awareness. We are a unique service, providing access to specialist nurses without a GP referral.

We provide telephone or video calls to teach women breast awareness and we provide support for women who are worried or concerned about something they have found. When face-to-face appointments can resume, we will also have this service for women who are local to us, as we did before.

As an independent charity, we rely on donations, fundraising, our 500 club, and specific grant funding when available. We are not connected to the NHS although we work closely with them and our Breast Awareness and Support programme follows the NHS 5-point plan for being breast aware.

During the global pandemic and UK lockdown, Lady McAdden, like many charities, had to pivot our services to meet the needs of women who could no longer attend breast awareness appointments in person. By switching to an online video and telephone service, we can continue to meet the needs of women seeking advice, peace of mind, answers or all three.

This change has seen Lady McAdden empower even more women to understand their own breasts and the changes that may occur month by month. This has been exciting to see and wonderful to know how many more women we have been able to help, even with limited physical resources, especially because women are best placed to find any physical changes rather than waiting for a GP appointment or even a mammogram.

What They Say

Testimonials

Just wanted to say thank you for arranging for my call with Kerry. She was fantastic to talk to and although I’m quite ‘breast savvy’ she gave me some great new tips/information. Our combined Geordie/Essex humour caused a few laughs which is just the thing when you feel a little anxious!

I will more than happily send a donation and I will fill in my volunteer application form and hope to help in the future. Best wishes to you all at Lady McAdden, you are all wonderful 💕

Just to say Natalie was lovely. A very reassuring voice.

Kind regards I just wanted to say. What a lovely nurse you have working for you. Such a nice lady so kind and caring and listened to everything I said and gave me great advice.

So thank you very much. As soon as I get my disability on Thursday next week I’ll donate some money x thank you

I had my appointment today with Kerry at 11 o’clock and I have to say I’ve never felt so reassured about something I generally thought I knew nothing about. Kerry showed me how to do it and then went through it again and done it with me so I didn’t feel alone.

I cannot believe how nervous I was for this appointment, but it really was nothing to be worried about.

I would just like to say a big thank you to Kerry for helping me to understand how to check and that I’ve got this. The most kindest and friendly person who made me feel so calm and in control.

I cannot thank you enough! Many thanks again for your help! Keep well and safe!

Ms S 18/12/20

I have had my session with Natalie – she is wonderful. She made me feel reassured about my concerns as well as supporting me with the next steps.

She also gave me some tips about what to look out for and what to do if I am ever unsure in the future. I cannot thank her enough! I just thought you should know.

My breast awareness consultation was really useful to me, even though I am reasonably breast aware, talking it through with a professional is so re-assuring and allowed me to double check things that I wasn’t too sure about.

It was great to be able to ask questions, and Natalie explained everything to me in a way that was really practical and easy for me to understand.

I’ve definitely come away from the chat feeling more confident and calm and it’s great to know I can come back to you if I have any further questions or need advice.

Ms F 17/11/2020

I have just had my breast awareness appointment. The nurse made me feel totally at ease and was very relatable – I felt very comfortable. It was good to go over what I should be doing and she gave me some good advice regarding mammograms too.

Thank you for the service,

Ms J 2/12/2020

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you & Nurse Natalie for setting up time to talk to me.

I knew deep down I was doing the right thing to get advice but I always worry I’m taking away time from someone more in need. But Natalie was kind, empathetic, so professional & above all knowledgeable & reassuring!

The video link worked well and Natalie did not rush me one bit and answered every last question.

Huge thank you & I’ll be making a donation.

Take care & stay safe!
