Breast Support Services

cropped-LadyMcAddenLogo-favicon.png

Our mission is to support the early detection of breast cancer in the UK. Breast cancer is the most common cancer in women, with 1 in 7 developing breast cancer in their lifetime. Almost 50% of breast cancer is first detected by women themselves and yet 49% of women say they don’t check themselves on a regular basis.

We provide self-referred breast awareness consultations to women who are 18 and over with specialist nurses. They provide confidential breast awareness advice via a face-to-face appointment (for local women, in normal times) or secure video appointment or telephone call to any woman who wants one, without having to see a GP first. Checking your breasts regularly can make a huge difference in early detection, whether you’re 25 or 75. By learning what’s normal for you, and understanding potential early signs of breast cancer, you can make sure you get the screening, help and support you may need, as soon as possible. Make your appointment today and remember it’s

What They Say

Testimonials

Natalie was really supportive and helpful, and my issue has improved considerably.

Thanks to you and the great support you give.

Dear Lady McAdden Team,

I just wanted to drop a quick email to say thank you so much for such a cohesive, kind and caring service. It was so easy to access, everyone I spoke to was caring, reassuring and competent. The appointment via video link was as close a second to a face-to-face appointment as I think it’s possible to get. Kerry was so reassuring and kind, the ‘virtual hug’ really made me feel as though we were in a traditional consult. I felt at ease, heard and that the time mattered for me. Thank you all of you, for such a wonderful, empowering service.

As always you have been so kind and helpful. I appreciate you so much. Thank you!

I had a video appointment a couple of weeks ago with your nurse Kerry which was most helpful.

Following on, I contacted my GP who referred me to the hospital breast unit. I went there this morning and am pleased to say that there is not a problem, thank goodness.

Many thanks again.

I just had my online screening with Kerry and I felt I need to email and tell you how at ease Kerry put me in discussing what I will expect over the next few years regarding the screening programme, she explained in detail how to most effectively check my breasts.  I am feeling a lot less anxious now.

Just wanted to say thank you for arranging for my call with Kerry. She was fantastic to talk to and although I’m quite ‘breast savvy’ she gave me some great new tips/information. Our combined Geordie/Essex humour caused a few laughs which is just the thing when you feel a little anxious!

I will more than happily send a donation and I will fill in my volunteer application form and hope to help in the future. Best wishes to you all at Lady McAdden, you are all wonderful 💕

Just to say Natalie was lovely. A very reassuring voice.

Kind regards I just wanted to say. What a lovely nurse you have working for you. Such a nice lady so kind and caring and listened to everything I said and gave me great advice.

So thank you very much. As soon as I get my disability on Thursday next week I’ll donate some money x thank you

I had my appointment today with Kerry at 11 o’clock and I have to say I’ve never felt so reassured about something I generally thought I knew nothing about. Kerry showed me how to do it and then went through it again and done it with me so I didn’t feel alone.

I cannot believe how nervous I was for this appointment, but it really was nothing to be worried about.

I would just like to say a big thank you to Kerry for helping me to understand how to check and that I’ve got this. The most kindest and friendly person who made me feel so calm and in control.

I cannot thank you enough! Many thanks again for your help! Keep well and safe!

I have had my session with Natalie – she is wonderful. She made me feel reassured about my concerns as well as supporting me with the next steps.

She also gave me some tips about what to look out for and what to do if I am ever unsure in the future. I cannot thank her enough! I just thought you should know.

My breast awareness consultation was really useful to me, even though I am reasonably breast aware, talking it through with a professional is so re-assuring and allowed me to double check things that I wasn’t too sure about.

It was great to be able to ask questions, and Natalie explained everything to me in a way that was really practical and easy for me to understand.

I’ve definitely come away from the chat feeling more confident and calm and it’s great to know I can come back to you if I have any further questions or need advice.

Ms F 17/11/2020

I have just had my breast awareness appointment. The nurse made me feel totally at ease and was very relatable – I felt very comfortable. It was good to go over what I should be doing and she gave me some good advice regarding mammograms too.

Thank you for the service,

Ms J 2/12/2020

I just wanted to say a huge thank you to you & Nurse Natalie for setting up time to talk to me.

I knew deep down I was doing the right thing to get advice but I always worry I’m taking away time from someone more in need. But Natalie was kind, empathetic, so professional & above all knowledgeable & reassuring!

The video link worked well and Natalie did not rush me one bit and answered every last question.

Huge thank you & I’ll be making a donation.

Take care & stay safe!

Ms A 2/12/2020
